Even though Netflix debuted new Christmas films weekly in November, a rather unexpected choice has taken the lead on the streaming platform. On Friday, the sci-fi thriller Subservience starring Megan Fox surpassed Our Little Secret and That Christmas to become the top movie on Netflix.

S.K. Dale is the director of *Subservience*, which came out directly on streaming platforms in September. Megan Fox had previously teamed up with Dale for the horror thriller *Till Death*, which was his first feature as a director. In their newest project, Fox portrays a realistic android named Alice, whom construction foreman Nick (Michele Morrone) employs to assist with household chores after his wife is admitted to the hospital.

Initially, Alice is a pleasant presence in the home, but before long, she becomes envious of Nick's wife, Maggie (Madeline Zima), which ultimately puts the whole family at risk.

"I was truly captivated by the script when the mother returns home and realizes that her connection has faded and someone else has taken her place," Dale shared with Screen Rant. "For me, that’s the essence of the story. That’s the emotional core I want to emphasize."

Like many popular films on Netflix, "Subservience" hasn't won over the critics. Currently, it holds a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Guardian suggests that if the film had been "somewhat more intelligent and less obvious, it could have had the potential to develop a cult following." However, given its recent rise in popularity on Netflix, it could still achieve that status.
