Security staff at London Heathrow airport go on "Coronation Strike"

Strike action

The Unite union revealed that approximately 1,400 security staff members employed at London's Heathrow Airport will participate in an eight-day strike in the coming month. The staff is striking to protest against a lack of pay hikes, which will include the time of King Charles' coronation.

On the dates of May 4, 5, 6 (which coincides with King Charles III's coronation), 9, 10, 25, 26, and 27, the Heathrow security workers will go on strike. The union predicts that this will inevitably cause disruption and delays. According to the General Secretary of Unite, Sharon Graham, Heathrow's CEO is denying the employees a fair increase in their pay.

An individual who represents the airport remarked that it will operate efficiently amidst the strikes, due to the fact that most Heathrow employees have no desire to participate in a strike and are content with the present terms offered.

Over the past year, the airport faced strikes and a lack of workers, resulting in extended wait times, flight delays, issues with baggage, and cancellations. Throughout the UK, there have been numerous strikes in various industries due to the rising cost of living, with wage increases at the forefront of demands.
