Stay safe ahead of Storm Darragh
Various partner organizations have gathered and will keep meeting throughout the weekend in order to prepare for Storm Darragh, which is expected to bring heavy rain and intense winds.
The Met Office has released an amber warning due to expected strong winds that may lead to disruptions. The public is urged to limit travel to only essential trips during the amber warning, which lasts from 1 AM Saturday until 9 PM the same day. Additionally, a yellow wind warning is active from 3 PM Friday until 6 AM Sunday, and there is also a yellow rain warning in effect from 3 PM Friday until noon Saturday. These weather conditions are predicted to impact all of Northern Ireland.
The powerful winds combined with elevated tides will generate significant waves that could lead to disturbances in coastal regions.
Teams from various agencies are keeping an eye on the situation and getting ready to handle any potential effects. The weather may cause debris on the roads, fallen trees, and large waves or spray in sensitive coastal areas. With the risk of significant waves, coastal roads could also face flooding—please remember to avoid driving through floodwaters.

The strength of water is clearly visible during a storm when waves slam into docks, piers, and cliffs. While it can be a breathtaking sight, these powerful surges can quickly knock you down. Just one wave is enough to pull you into the ocean, and capturing a dramatic photo or selfie isn't worth putting your life in danger. If you witness someone being swept away by a wave, please call 999 and request the Coastguard for help.
