Introduction

Stoke City Football Club, commonly referred to as Stoke, is an English professional football club based in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. The club was founded in 1863 and has historically played in red and white stripes. Stoke City is currently a member of the English Football League Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

History

The club's most successful period was during the 1970s when they won the Football League Cup twice and finished as runners-up in the Football League First Division. Stoke City has also reached three FA Cup semi-finals and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final. The club's home ground is the bet365 Stadium, which has a capacity of 30,089. The club is nicknamed "The Potters" due to Stoke-on-Trent's traditional pottery industry.

Throughout its history, the club has produced several notable players, including Stanley Matthews, one of the greatest English footballers of all time. Other standout players include Peter Shilton, Gordon Banks, and Mark Stein. Currently, the team is managed by Michael O'Neill, who has been at the helm since November 2019.
