A woman has been taken into custody regarding the death of the baby grandson of former Manchester United footballer Steve Bruce.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that a woman in her 40s has been taken into custody and released on bail while investigations into allegations of child neglect continue.
Authorities discovered the body of an infant at a location in Trafford Borough at approximately 7:10 AM BST on October 18.
Four-month-old Madison is the daughter of Matt Smith, a 35-year-old former striker for Leeds, Fulham, and Millwall. He is married to Amy, 37, who is the daughter of the Blackpool manager.
A representative from GMP stated: "On Friday, October 18, 2024, at around 7:10 a.m., our officers were called to address a welfare concern in Trafford and, unfortunately, discovered that a baby had passed away."
A woman in her 40s has been taken into custody on suspicion of neglecting a child and has since been released on bail while we carry on with our investigation into the details of this death.
Bruce, the manager of League One club Blackpool, was absent from the team's match against Barnsley on October 19 due to the incident.
Later that month, the 63-year-old shared a message on the club's official X account, stating: "This has been the most challenging period my family has ever faced, and it's something no family should have to go through."
