Steve Bruce will not be present for Blackpool’s match against Barnsley due to the passing of his infant grandson.

Blackpool announced that their 63-year-old manager, who has previously coached teams like Birmingham, Hull, Aston Villa, and Newcastle, would not be on the sidelines this Saturday afternoon.

A statement from Blackpool revealed that head coach Steve Bruce will not be present at the match against Barnsley tomorrow because of the heartbreaking loss of his four-month-old grandson, Madison.

"The entire football club extends their heartfelt condolences to Steve and his family. We kindly request that their privacy be honored as they navigate through this shocking and unforeseen loss."

Millwall expressed their heartfelt love and support, while QPR extended their deepest sympathies, affection, and support to Matt Smith, who is the father of Madison and the son-in-law of Bruce.

"We stand by you at every stage, Smudger," Millwall posted on X, while QPR expressed: "We're all here for you, Smudger."

Smith stepped down from his position during the summer after his time with Salford. Alex Bruce, the assistant manager and Steve's son as well as Madison's uncle, will also be missing for the League Two game against Crawley on Saturday.

A message from Salford expressed: "Everyone at the football club extends their love and unwavering support to Alex, Matt Smith, and their family."

“We ask that you honor their privacy as they navigate through this sudden and shocking loss in their family.”

Steve Bruce, the ex-Manchester United defender, has recorded four wins, one draw, and one loss in his six League One matches as the manager of Blackpool since taking over from Neil Critchley last month. Currently, the Tangerines sit in 10th place in the league standings.
