Lee Byung-hun portrays the Front Man in the series Squid Game on Netflix.

Lee Byung-hun returns as Player 001, also known as The Front Man, in the second season of Squid Game, bringing back his character from a cameo in the earlier season.

The actor is a significant figure in South Korea's entertainment industry, and his short appearance in the inaugural season was a big success for Hwang Dong-hyuk's relatively unknown series at the time. However, viewers in the West might also recognize Lee Byung-hun from a number of roles in Hollywood films.

He portrayed Storm Shadow in both GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra and its 2013 follow-up, Retaliation. That summer, he also starred in the action-comedy Red 2, where he played an opponent to Bruce Willis and his team of former spies.

Lee also took on the role of a T-1000 in the unsuccessful reboot, Terminator Genisys, and portrayed Billy Rocks, one of the characters in the remake of The Magnificent Seven, starring Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington.

Who Is The Front Man In Squid Game?

The Front Man in Season 2 of Squid Game on Netflix

The Front Man seems to be the highest-ranking individual in the Squid Game, responsible for making sure that the bizarre event runs seamlessly and satisfies the wealthy viewers.

His actual name is Hwang In-ho, and he happens to be the older brother of police officer Hwang Jun-ho (played by Wi Ha-joon), who went undercover in the first season to find his missing brother.

During a heated showdown, In-ho finally revealed his true identity to Jun-ho. He commanded his troops to fire at his younger brother, an assault that Jun-ho narrowly escaped.

It's still unclear exactly how In-ho became The Front Man. There are various theories, including the idea that he might have been a past champion or perhaps started as a low-level worker and climbed the ranks, similar to The Salesman (Gong Yoo).

Why Does The Front Man Join Squid Game As Player 001?

The Front Man appears to enter the Squid Game to familiarize himself with his rival, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), and to monitor him carefully in case he tries to interfere with the events.

Although Oh Il-nam from Squid Game was seemingly not in any real peril—he was removed from the competition after being eliminated and taken back to his private hospital room—it remains uncertain if The Front Man shares the same fate.

There are times during the matches when he seems truly frightened, but this could be just a performance to distract Gi-hun and his friends from realizing his true intentions.

Only time will reveal how this trick unfolds. The arrival of Squid Game season 3 can't come soon enough!
