Residents without water as Storm Ciarán hits supply

Southern Water

Southern Water has expressed remorse to inhabitants of the Waterside area for the absence of water supply as a result of the "unusual" effect of Storm Ciarán.

People living in the areas of Marchwood, Hythe, Didben Purlieu, and Fawley, whose postcodes are SO40 and SO45, have been experiencing a lack of water since yesterday evening.

Southern Water explained that the issue arose as a result of the exceptional impact of Storm Ciarán on the water quality and levels of the River Test, which is located near its Testwood water supply works.

According to a declaration, "This condition has resulted in significant difficulties in extracting water and purifying it for consumption, resulting in a momentary shutdown of our facility."

Due to this, we are facing difficulties in replenishing water storage in certain regions.

This morning's (Thursday's) communication to customers mentioned that the company regrets the inconvenience caused by the scarcity of water and low pressure.

We are working tirelessly to get our Testwood location operational and provide bottled water to our most important customers.

Due to the power failure, multiple schools in the region have been compelled to shut down. Some of the schools that have closed down include Hythe Primary, Wildground Infant and Juniors in Dibden Purlieu, and Noadswood in Dibden Purlieu.

You can get bottled water from a few places, like Applemore and Gang Warily leisure centres, Costco in Southampton, and Places Leisure in Eastleigh.

People who are vulnerable – or those who are worried about a friend or family member who may be vulnerable – and require bottled water urgently, can dial 0330 303 0368.
