Southampton 2-1 Blackpool LIVE: Second half updates as Charlie Patino halves deficit

28 Jan 2023

Blackpool are on the road this afternoon and seeking to reach the next round of the FA Cup with a clash against Premier League side Southampton.

The Seasiders put their Championship campaign on the back burner this afternoon as attentions turn to progressing in the oldest cup competition in the world. They make the trip to St Mary's to take on the top flight outfit.

Blackpool have already dumped Premier League opposition out of the competition and will be seeking to repeat that feat. They beat Nottingham Forest 4-1 earlier this month at Bloomfield Road.

This afternoon's encounter is also the first game in charge of the Seasiders for Mick McCarthy. He has replaced the sacked Michael Appleton in the dugout for the rest of the season.

McCarthy admits his primary focus is the Championship and keeping the Seasiders in the division as they battle against the threat of relegation. But Blackpool will nonetheless will be going down to St Mary's to win the game and be in the hat for Monday's fifth round draw.

We'll be live throughout the day to cover the encounter at St Mary's. We'll bring you all the build-up, team news, match updates and reaction from McCarthy as the Seasiders aim to cause another upset in the cup.
