The cricket teams of South Africa and Australia will face each other in the second semi-final of the World Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The winner will have the opportunity to compete against the host team, India, in the much-anticipated World Cup final.

In the group stage of the tournament, the Proteas were the runners-up and lost twice. One of their defeats was quite unexpected as they lost to the Netherlands. Their second loss was a severe beating by India. On the other hand, Australia finished third in the group stages.
