Korean actor and Queen Woo star Song Jae-rim dies aged 39
Korean actor and ex-model Song Jae-rim has passed away at the age of 39.
The actor rose to fame with his significant part in the 2012 drama series The Moon Embracing the Sun.
He subsequently acted in various well-known television series, such as Cool Guys, Hot Ramen, Inspiring Generation, Two Weeks, and Queen Woo.
He also made appearances in films like Grand Prix, The Suspect, and Bait. Most recently, he was performing on stage in the musical La Rose De Versailles, completing his final show in mid-October.
The Seoul Seongdong Police Station reported that Song's body was discovered at his residence in Seoul last Thursday afternoon.
A representative stated, as mentioned by The Korea Herald, that there are no indications of any wrongdoing at this time.
The cause of death hasn't been made public yet, but the funeral is scheduled to take place on Thursday at Yeouido St. Mary’s Funeral Hall in the capital city of South Korea.
The actor recently updated his Instagram bio to say, "a long journey begins."
Jae-rim started his journey in the spotlight as a model, showcasing collections for designers like Juun. J, Herin Homme, and Ha Sang Beg. He has also made appearances in notable publications such as Bazaar Korea, GQ Korea, Esquire Korea, and Marie Claire Korea.
He made his acting debut in 2009, and although he landed several prominent roles, he also featured in music videos for various K-pop artists such as 2NE1, KARA, BOA, and After School.
In 2014, he participated in the reality show "We Got Married," where he teamed up with actress Kim So Eun. The two were matched together and had to act as though they were a married couple while completing various challenges.
One of his latest performances was in My Military Valentine, as well as in the historical drama Queen Woo.
Fans took to social media to express their grief over the news. One user posted on X, "I'm heartbroken to learn about Song Jae-rim's passing. He was an immensely talented actor who left us too early, with a remarkable body of work. Mental health is crucial, and we should keep discussing it and support those in our lives. Rest in peace."
