Peter Andre has admitted he has "given up" on the UK version of Love Island, saying its Australian counterpart is better viewing. The Mysterious Girl singer, 49, admitted he had tuned out of the most recent UK series and decided watching two versions of the show was "too much." Therefore, he opted for the version from his native country's.

Peter was born in London, but moved down under when he was six. In his column with OK!, Peter said: "I started watching Love Island but then I just fazed out of it, although I love it. But Emily, Princess and I are also watching the Australian one and we’ve secretly got more into that. It’s just too hard to keep up with two series!"

He questioned if publishing a winter and summer edition was really necessary, but he added that there was clearly a audience for it. Two bombshells from past Down Under series appeared on the UK version of the current UK series, which is now filming in South Africa. This crossover is the first to occur between the two shows.

Despite his admission, Peter quickly praised the performance of new presenter Maya Jama. The 28-year-old took over from 37-year-old Laura Whitmore, and in the first few weeks, she has received glowing reviews.

Peter, whose wife Emily was born in Taunton, added: "From the episodes I’ve seen I have to say Maya Jama is an incredible addition to that show. She is doing a great job.”

And the dad-of-four isn’t the only one gushing over Maya. The star has been heaped with praise ever since she made her debut as host, with her first show going down a storm with viewers.

Fans have been expressing their admiration on Twitter, with some claiming that the brunette beauty was "made" for the show.

One viewer exclaimed: "I know it’s already been said but it can’t be said enough… Maya Jama was MADE for this role."

A second fan added: "Anti winter love island but i might have to tune in for Maya Jama."

After two years in the role and only weeks after the summer television season finished, Laura, 37, made the decision to end her hosting duties in August. Last month she revealed the real reason she quit the show, admitting she found “certain elements” of it “very difficult”.

The mum-of-one, who is married to Love Island voiceover star Iain Stirling, said: "There was only so much I can do as a host I couldn’t support them or not support them. I couldn’t say anything.

"So you kind of have to go quiet, and that was hard for me because I like to be able to have those conversations. If I could have done things the way I wanted to, I’d probably still be doing it.”
