UK weather: 'Mixture of rain, sleet and snow' forecast by Met Office as 'cold spell' to grip country next week

Snow weather forecast

According to the Met Office, the UK is expected to face "a number of days with cold weather that could cause significant disruptions next week," with chances of rain, sleet, and snow.

Weather experts mentioned that it’s still too soon to determine the exact locations that will be affected by the winter weather, as computer simulations are presenting various possible outcomes.

However, there is a belief that a significant portion of the UK will experience colder temperatures.

Tom Morgan, a weather expert at the Met Office, mentioned that frigid temperatures are expected to come in next week, bringing the possibility of snowfall in certain areas of the UK.

Expect a chaotic blend of rain, sleet, and snow.

"Additionally, there are likely to be breezy conditions in certain regions of the UK, especially on Monday. However, all areas are expected to become colder with the possibility of snow showers by Wednesday."

Take a look at the weather predictions for your location.

Mr. Morgan mentioned that it's quite rare to expect such cold weather in the southern regions at this time of year, and he linked the upcoming "cold spell" next week to a shift in the jet stream's position.

He noted that starting from the middle of the week, any location across the UK could experience snowfall, ice, and frost during the nighttime.

In the meantime, weather expert Alex Deakin mentioned that the upcoming week will bring "cooler air throughout the UK."

"A weather pattern is forming to the west of the UK, which is introducing moisture," he explained. He added that the uncertainty about the amount of snow we might experience comes from how this moisture will mix with the colder air.

"As we head into next week, it looks like these weather patterns will start affecting southern England, bringing colder air to regions throughout the UK."
