UK weather: Schools shut as snow falls across parts of the UK
Due to the snowfall in several regions of the UK, educational institutions have been shut down throughout the country.
Significant interference to traveling has been reported and climate alerts are expected to continue for an extended period of time.
In all four nations there are both snow and rain warnings in place, both of which are colored yellow. These warnings will remain active in most areas of the United Kingdom on Friday.
On Thursday, the Met Office recorded a snowfall of 10cm (3.9in) in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland.
The lowest recorded temperature ever was -13.8C (7.1F) in Altnaharra within the Scottish Highlands.
Additionally, there was a significant amount of precipitation in the form of rain, with Harbertonford in South Devon recording 43.2mm. This amount almost equaled half of the typical average for the region during February.
Despite ongoing warnings, on Thursday evening, Met Office operational meteorologist Dan Stroud stated "Although the worst of it has passed, the situation remains uncertain."

All schools in Flintshire, located in the northern part of Wales, were closed even before a single flake of snow had come down. This decision has resulted in a wave of anger from parents who were left feeling frustrated. The Flintshire council has issued an apology for all the inconvenience caused due to the sudden shutdown of schools.
In Wales, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and Cumbria, there have been reports of schools being shut down.
North Wales Police has stated that there have been multiple reports of small-scale collisions on the road.
Road and rail travel faced interruptions and delays. Great Western Railway experienced complications on their Bath to Swindon route caused by flooding.
There were considerable disruptions at Euston station in London, however London Northwestern Railway stated that a swan on the tracks contributed to this event.
The meteorological office has issued a warning stating that pavements and cycle paths that have not been treated could become impassable due to ice. This could lead to cases of people slipping and falling, resulting in injuries.
