The crowd cheered as the 21-year-old eagerly awaited his turn. With a final nod from Tom Schaar, he launched himself into the park bowl with energy.

The beginning of his triumph was just around the corner.

On a warm Wednesday afternoon in Paris, Palmer had accomplished his goal of defending his Olympic park title.

After winning, he achieved the rare feat of becoming a two-time Olympic champion in skateboarding, following in the footsteps of Japan's Yuto Horigome who won the men's street contest just over a week ago.

He also accomplished the victory in a stylish manner, scoring 93.11 in his first run and none of the other skaters were able to surpass his score. The USA’s Schaar came in second with a score of 92.23 in his final run.

Palmer, who had already secured the victory, decided not to finish his third and final try. He abandoned the trick halfway through, but took an extra moment to enjoy the moment before the clock ran out.

Scaling the peak of the tall volcano, the main act of the afternoon show faced the crowd to accept their enthusiastic applause. He bowed with appreciation before proudly holding up his surfboard in one hand and displaying the Australian emblem with the other hand.

The talented performer had once again put on a great performance and everyone was thoroughly entertained.

Augusto Akio from Brazil won the bronze medal and amazed the spectators by balancing his skateboard on his chin.

The impressive display of skills and performance could be seen from every part of the skate park as the day went on.

Augusto Akio, who ended up winning the bronze medal, made sure to stop at each intersection to entertain fans with his juggling. He thrived off the excitement and admiration of the crowd as he showed off his talent with the Brazilian-inspired clubs, and he kept the energy flowing.

Just after completing his impressive run with a score of 91.85, securing his spot on the podium, he didn't even hesitate to show off his skills further by balancing his board on his chin with the Olympic rings in the background.

Just like Akio, Pedro Barros also kept talking with fans all the time. He would ask for their support before trying his tricks, and then would look to them for approval. Not even the famous people watching the park final were immune to his interactions.

Snoop Dogg, a huge fan of the Olympics, along with USA Basketball player Devin Booker and skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, eagerly applauded as Barros bowed towards them in anticipation.

However, despite the abundance of confidence, there was also a lot of fair play shown.

The loud noise of skateboards hitting the edge of the ramp created an exciting atmosphere as skaters showed their enthusiasm, adding to the overall applause.

When Barros' last try fell short by 0.20 points and put Akio in third place, the Brazilian trio gathered for a big group hug, showing all their emotions.

"I used to watch him skate when I was a kid. Every day, I would watch videos of him," Akio said about Barros, his close friend and the silver medalist at Tokyo 2020. "He always talks about coming together, showing respect, and recognizing others. He truly embodies these values."

Another skater named Tate Carew narrowly missed out on a spot on the podium, but was quick to join in the celebrations as the medal winners were announced. The American skater then dove into the bowl with Barros to hoist Palmer onto their shoulders in celebration of his win.

The skateboarding event showcased the ultimate fusion of skill and talent, with top skateboarders delivering outstanding performances on their boards.

"It's simply skateboarding as a whole," remarked Olympic silver medalist Schaar when talking about the vibe after the event.

I do not have any intention of besting him just because he bested me. We are all supporting each other in this competition.

"I shouted at Keegan during his final run. Even though he had already secured the victory, I urged him to put on a good performance. It's all about working together as a team."

Palmer, the main focus of the positive news story winning again, was extremely grateful for the support.

"It's an absolutely incredible feeling," said the newly crowned gold medalist after the competition. "I might struggle to find the right words and end up repeating myself, but this experience is truly indescribable."

While it was expected that the skater would excel in Paris after performing strongly in the final Olympic qualifiers before the Games and leading in the preliminary rounds, Palmer actually encountered numerous obstacles while trying to retain his championship.

Two years ago, he began his journey to qualify for the Olympics, but it was filled with injuries that held him back. In 2023, he couldn't compete in the World Championships in Ostia, Rome, where Gavin Bottger won. The following year, he had difficulty regaining his fitness.

"I'm not one to make excuses, but I've had numerous knee injuries on both legs," he confessed to Olympics.com following his triumph in Budapest last month.

I injured my meniscus earlier this year and had to undergo surgery. Additionally, I suffered a bone bruise and a fractured kneecap on my left knee. It was quite a lot to deal with.

However, despite facing injury troubles, Palmer never lost his passion for skating. Through rehabilitation, perseverance, and a determination to keep pace with his friends, he was able to rediscover his winning form. Eventually, all he needed was the opportunity to showcase his skills once more.

And so, he accomplished it.

"It feels amazing to have a body that is working perfectly," Palmer exclaimed while wearing the gold medal. "This is a dream come true. I am truly in disbelief."
