Simon Bird has shared some disappointing news regarding the reunion of The Inbetweeners.

The 40-year-old actor appeared with Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison in the beloved comedy series centered on a group of awkward teenage boys. The show lasted for two years starting in 2008, and it was succeeded by The Inbetweeners Movie and The Inbetweeners 2, which were released in 2011 and 2014, respectively.

Despite fans' hopes and excitement, Bird mentioned that there are no intentions for him to team up again with Thomas, Buckley, and Harrison for any upcoming Inbetweeners projects.

In an interview with MailOnline, Bird expressed, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's just not going to happen. I can say with certainty that there are no chances of a reunion."

He stated, “The cast would love to, but it's not our decision; it relies on the writers, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley. I understand they have a lot on their plates right now.”

"I'm sorry, but there's no greater chance of it happening now than there was a decade ago," Bird mentioned.

"I believe it was a comedy that reflected a specific era," he explained. "So, to clarify, there hasn't been any conversation about a new series or movie."

Bird confessed that even though fans often recite lines from The Inbetweeners to him while he’s out and about, he doesn’t actually recall his own lines from the series.

"I really don’t understand what they’re discussing," he stated. "I can’t recall the show at all—I don’t believe I’ve even seen it again since it came out in 2008."

The actor from Friday Night Dinner has mentioned before that a reboot of The Inbetweeners would be "disheartening for everyone" taking part in it.

He mentioned to Screen Daily, "Nobody is interested in purchasing us as teenagers anymore."

"I believe that seeing the four of us reunited in our 30s is likely to be a bit sad for everyone. I don't imagine we'll be doing that again."

Bird is the most recent star from The Inbetweeners to express skepticism about a reboot. Buckley, who portrayed Jay in the series, shared that a much-criticized Channel 4 reunion that aired at the beginning of 2019 was such a failure that it made him hesitant to consider returning to the show.

The gathering, led by Jimmy Carr, featured the cast of the series taking part in a quiz about The Inbetweeners, a spoof awards ceremony, and viewing nostalgic clips from the show. Reviewers described the two-hour special as "chaotic," prompting Buckley to later express his regrets about it on Twitter.

“Looking back, Buckley admitted to Heart Radio that having that reunion might have been a misstep.”

For me, I really don't want to damage The Inbetweeners any further. Right now, I'm not interested in getting involved with it at all.
