Shrek 5: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz to return for new film

Shrek is making a comeback after a long wait, and fans can look forward to seeing Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz reprise their roles in the beloved green ogre's first movie in 16 years.

Details about the movie's story have not been released yet, but Myers will be portraying the main character, Diaz will provide the voice for Shrek's spouse Princess Fiona, and Murphy will reprise his role as Donkey, the loyal sidekick.

DreamWorks Animation shared exciting news about the upcoming release of Shrek 5. The highly anticipated movie, featuring the original cast of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, is set to hit theaters on July 1, 2026. Get ready for another adventure with everyone's favorite ogre!

The initial movie premiered in 2001 and took home the first Academy Award for best animated film.

DreamWorks struck gold with this film, raking in $487 million in ticket sales around the globe.

Shrek 2 debuted in 2004, followed by Shrek The Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After was released in theaters in 2010.

Shrek 5 is actually the seventh movie in the bigger series, because Antonio Banderas' character starred in two other films - Puss In Boots and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.

We don't know yet if Banderas will return for Shrek 5.

Murphy suggested in a recent interview with Collider that there may be a spin-off movie featuring Donkey in the works.

He also mentioned that they began working on Shrek 5 "several months in the past".

"I documented the initial performance, and we plan to carry it out this year, we will complete it," he stated.

Shrek is being released and Donkey will star in his own film.
