Sheff Utd set to sack manager Heckingbottom

Sheffield United

Additionally, Heckingbottom has been in charge of Barnsley, Leeds United, and Hibernian in his managerial career.

It seems that Sheffield United will be bidding farewell to Paul Heckingbottom as their manager in the next day.

The Blades suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat against Burnley last weekend and are currently in last place in the Premier League with only five points. They have unfortunately lost 11 out of their total 14 matches so far.

Heckingbottom was made the permanent manager in November of 2021, and he led United to the top tier with a runner-up finish in the Championship during the previous season.

One of the top candidates to become the new manager is Chris Wilder, who previously held the position.

Following the Burnley match, Heckingbottom expressed his disapproval of the club's choice to prioritize financial gains over football strategies, evident in their decision to sell important players during the summer.

The person who is 46 years old stated that a few players in United's team didn't perform well during the match against Burnley. This was a disappointment since Burnley have never managed to win a game in the Premier League by five goals. This loss caused United to drop to the bottom of the table, while Burnley rose higher.

The United team is currently trailing by four points, struggling with only one win under their belt this season and a negative goal difference of 28.

On Wednesday, Liverpool, who currently hold the second position, will be playing at Bramall Lane.

Heckingbottom, the person who was supposed to hold a news conference, had it cancelled on Monday.

Disappointing Comeback To Premier League

United had a regrettable start to their Premier League comeback by losing their initial three games. To sum up August, they were defeated by the League One Lincoln City on their home turf during the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Following their initial league point achieved in a draw against Everton at the start of September, United encountered a losing streak of six consecutive games. The team suffered a crushing 8-0 defeat on home turf against Newcastle and experienced a 5-0 loss in their game against Arsenal.

Arsenal's victory resulted in Sheffield United setting a dismal record for the poorest start to a Premier League season, having suffered nine losses out of their first 10 matches and a goal difference at -22.

Prior to the international break in November, there were indications of a better performance on the field. The team was able to secure their first victory of the season against Wolves with a penalty kick by Oliver Norwood in stoppage time. This was followed by a draw at Brighton where the scoreline was 1-1.

Conceding a 3-1 loss against Bournemouth was a significant setback for Heckingbottom's team, with the coach commenting that his players did not meet the necessary level. This made the upcoming match against Burnley even more crucial.

Players Disappoint Heckingbottom

Last Saturday, United allowed a goal to be scored against them within the first minute of the game by Burnley, the team who won the Championship last season.

During the match, when United were down by two points, Oli McBurnie got a red card just before half-time. The team then went on to let in three more goals in the last 17 minutes of the game.

Heckingbottom expressed to BBC's Match of the Day that a few individuals were not able to handle the situation and the event, resulting in a tough situation.

I always speak truthfully to my players in the locker room, so they know my thoughts. A couple of them are aware that we were disappointed today.

Alan Shearer, the ex-captain of England, deemed the performance of United as "shameful".

He commented during the airing of Match of the Day that in the initial minute, they couldn't manage to execute three tackles within three or four seconds. This comprised their overall performance.

On Monday, Burnley's coach Vincent Kompany commented about the anticipated firing of Heckingbottom, saying: "I recall that just a few short months ago, he was considered one of the top managers in the [Championship]."

We first encountered each other during an awards ceremony where he was receiving accolades, which implies that his circumstances haven't transformed much within a tiny period. It's vital to take into account the league's standards when analyzing this matter.

"I couldn't forget the overwhelming recognition he received for his performance last year. While some individuals may overlook this in the context of football, I simply cannot. The situation is what it is."

Policy On Transfers & Ownership Issues

Speculation has been circulating about a potential acquisition at United ever since the Saudi Arabian proprietor, Prince Abdullah, declared his intention to dispose of the club prior to the previous season's ascendance.

He became the only owner after victorious in a court case against the former chairman Kevin McCabe in September 2019.

This year, United was subjected to a transfer ban due to their failure to make payments to another club.

Some supporters have raised doubts about their approach to transfer dealings.

United let go of two of their top players from last season just before this season began when Iliman NDiaye signed with Marseille and Sander Berge was transferred to Burnley.

How Much Of A Shot Did He Stand?

During an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, ex-Chelsea forward Chris Sutton expressed his "huge understanding" for Heckingbottom, but believes that he will have to leave the club following losses to Bournemouth and Burnley.

"What possibility did he hold? Is it unexpected for any of us that Sheffield United is at the bottom of the Premier League? This was the expected outcome," commented Sutton.

He exceeded expectations in the Championship league despite facing a transfer ban. Perhaps if he had secured a play-off spot instead, he could have kept his position.

You just can't afford to suffer such a shameful defeat against an opponent who is competing with you directly in the league if you want to continue working for the team. Newcastle had already thoroughly defeated them with an 8-0 scoreline earlier on in the season. However, if you're suffering heavy losses against teams like Bournemouth and getting completely crushed by Burnley due to the unacceptable behaviour of particular players, then it's only a matter of time before you are shown the door.

I feel sorry for Paul. It's inevitable that his team will be demoted, and he could really use Paul Heckingbottom's help to bring them back up.
