Muniz grabs late equaliser as Fulham fight back to deny Sheffield United
Rodrigo Muniz saved the day for Fulham with an amazing goal in the last few seconds of added time, making the score in their match against Sheffield United a tie. The game was quite exciting, with a total of six goals scored in the second half after a slow and uneventful first half where no one scored. Muniz's successful volley ensured that neither team could claim a rare victory in the Premier League match at Bramall Lane.
Ben Brereton Díaz scored the first goal for the Blades. Later, João Palhinha scored a goal for Fulham and tied the match. After that, the Chilean striker assisted Oli McBurnie and the home team clinched the second goal. In addition, he headed the ball into the net and the Blades achieved a 3-1 lead. Nevertheless, in the 86th minute, Bobby Decordova-Reid came in as a substitute and scored a goal for Fulham. Later, Muniz scored his eighth goal in as many top-flight appearances and stunned the home fans with his acrobatic performance.
The Blades, who had allowed the highest number of goals in Premier League history, put up a strong defense and managed to end the first half with no goals scored. They made history by being the first English League team to let in at least five goals in four consecutive home games in all competitions, when they lost 6-0 to Arsenal a few weeks ago.
Muniz almost scored for Fulham during the game against the Blades. In the 38th minute, he tried to slide the ball into the net, but the goalkeeper Ivo Grbic saved it by pushing it onto a post. Later, at the beginning of the second half, Muniz had another great opportunity to score with a header from a deep cross by Andreas Pereira. The ball hit the far post and bounced away.
Suddenly, The Blades managed to get the first goal. McBurnie received the ball from a great pass by Ben Osborn and sent it to Brereton Diaz, who skillfully finished it, making a goal at the 58-minute mark. However, Fulham quickly responded with an equalizer as Palhinha's impressive header from Pereira's corner kick hit the back of the net, tying the game just four minutes later.
The Blades scored two quick goals to take a two-goal lead. Brereton Díaz set up McBurnie for an easy close range shot, and the Bramall Lane Stadium erupted when Chilean striker headed in a beautiful long-range pass from Gustavo Hamer.
There was a VAR check that caused some confusion right after a goal was scored. According to the ruling, Fulham's goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, did not hit Brereton Díaz after the striker fell over the goal-line. The situation seemed to improve for the opposing team, the Blades, but then VAR declared McBurnie's goal invalid because Fulham had not cleared their area and Vini Souza was ruled offside.
Fulham made an impressive comeback as Cordova-Reid scored the last goal with only four minutes left after replacing Pereira. Muniz also contributed to the equalizer by launching himself at Adama Traore’s cross in the third minute of the added 14-minute stoppage time. This made for an exciting finish to the game.
