Fulham fight back to grab draw in six-goal thriller
In the previous eight Premier League matches, Rodrigo Muniz was able to score eight goals.
Fulham managed to prevent Sheffield United, who are currently at the bottom of the table, from securing a crucial win after coming back from a two-goal deficit. Rodrigo Muniz's incredible bicycle kick during injury time cemented their success.
During the third of the 14 planned extra minutes at the conclusion of regular time, Muniz made contact with a powerful cross from Adama Traore in an impressive second half at Bramall Lane.
In their previous game, Sheffield United had a lead of two goals but ended up with a draw against Bournemouth. In their latest match, they also had a great opportunity to win by being ahead 3-1 at the 86th minute mark but they were not able to hold onto their lead.
However, the game's dynamic shifted when Bobby de Cordova-Reid, who entered as a substitute for Fulham, quickly made an impression by scoring from a distance of 25 yards. This led to a frenzied finale before Muniz sealed the game with his eighth consecutive goal in eight matches.
The Blades appeared to be on track to obtain their fourth victory in the Premier League season and took the lead thanks to Ben Brereton Diaz, who is currently on loan from Villarreal, in the 58th minute.
Tosin Adarabioyo, who plays for Fulham, made a mistake and lost possession of the ball. In response, Oli McBurnie made an outstanding pass with the outer side of his right foot from the left side, and Brereton Diaz scored a goal as a result.
The guests managed to even the score only four minutes after conceding a goal. Joao Palhinha, who was not being marked by any defender, scored a header from the corner taken by Andreas Pereira from the right side of the field.
In a brief timeframe of three minutes, Chris Wilder's squad managed to score twice, appearing to have gained dominance over the team from London.
In the 68th minute, Brereton Diaz passed the ball back to McBurnie, who scored a goal and put the home team back in the lead. Later, Brereton Diaz, a Chilean player, scored another goal with a header after receiving a cross from Gustavo Hamer, making the final score 3-1.
The people in charge believed that they had achieved a fourth point when McBurnie scored, but the video assistant referee (VAR) called it off. The VAR reviewed the footage and discovered that Vini Souza was in an offside position and hindered goalkeeper Bernd Leno's vision.
Had the referee approved that objective, the Blades would have certainly dominated the match. However, they failed to maintain their lead once again, as Fulham mounted a comeback and managed to draw the match.
"Reflecting On Missed Opportunity From Both Sides"
The outcome puts the Blades in a position of being seven points behind both Nottingham Forest, who are at rank 17, and Luton, who are at rank 18. Nonetheless, Wilder will once again ponder over the missed chance.
Before the dramatic ending of the match, the team had managed to secure one of their finest performances of the season despite only having 24 goals in their past 28 games in the league.
Their downfall was caused by defensive errors yet again.
Fulham had offered Palhinha too much room during their first goal, and Wilder wouldn't have been pleased with their defense during the second goal, leading to Muniz's excellent play.
Certainly, Fulham had the opportunity to score a winning goal towards the end of the game. However, Ivo Grbic prevented Tom Cairney from achieving this goal in the 16th minute of extra time.
Over the course of their last five home games across all competitions, Sheffield United has allowed a total of 24 goals to be scored against them.
This outcome happened following their defeat at home to Brighton by a score of 5-2 in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Additionally, they encountered back-to-back 5-0 league losses by Aston Villa and Brighton and experienced a severe 6-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal.
During the previous Premier League season, Fulham occupied the 10th spot, while Marco Silva's team is currently placed at 12th. There is still a slim possibility for them to enter the Europa Conference League in the upcoming season.
Currently, if Fulham secures the seventh position, they will qualify. However, if Coventry City, a team from the lower league Championship, manages to win the FA Cup, then Fulham must finish in the top six to qualify.
Fulham is trailing West Ham by five points in the ranking, but they are just as baffled as Sheffield United as to why they couldn't secure a win during their last match.
