Servette vs Chelsea: All you need to know

Servette vs Chelsea

Chelsea is traveling to the southern edge of Lake Geneva for the important second leg of our UEFA Conference League qualifying match. Rick Glanvill, the club's historian, and Paul Dutton, the club's statistician, provide all the necessary information for the upcoming game in Switzerland.

After winning the first match 2-0, the Blues need to make sure they don't lose by two or more goals in the next match to advance to the competition.

This is the fourth time our club has competed in Switzerland. We managed to come out victorious in one match (Basel, April 2013) but suffered defeat in two others (St Gallen, September 2000 and Basel, November 2013) out of the three previous visits.

Chelsea has played in six UEFA play-off games since 1999, and we have not let in any goals in these matches, whether we were playing at home or away. These previous games were in the Champions League.

The Blue team comes to the next game feeling good after winning 6-2 at Wolves' stadium. This was our biggest win at that stadium. It's surprising to note that no new Premier League coach had ever won their first away game with a team scoring six goals until that match.

Enzo Maresca has won two games in a row in all competitions, but he is worried about being careless with the ball. This was clear during last Thursday's match.

"We're hanging in there," said Genevese goalie Jeremy Frick after their match at Stamford Bridge. The Swiss Cup champions have had a quiet week to recuperate and get ready for their upcoming sold-out game at Stade de Geneve. However, their last game at home ended in a disappointing 6-0 loss to Super League opponents Basel.

Chelsea is focused on getting the highest seeding in the league phase draw happening on Friday. The draw will begin at 1.30pm UK time and will be done by a computer using an algorithm. The computer will randomly select one opponent from each of the six pots, which are organized by UEFA coefficient rankings. Three teams will be designated as hosts and three as visitors for the matches.

The Enzo Maresca strategy began to shine at Molineux, but with a major derby approaching on Sunday, it is expected that there will be a different starting lineup tonight in Geneva.

In the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, we witnessed the quick and confident passing from their own half and the effective finishing in front of the goal that Maresca desires. The team from London managed to take 14 shots during the game, with eight of them directly on target.

He is focusing on getting better at defending during transitions and set-plays, but the recent morale-boosting victory could help him progress faster. The Italian coach has also promised fans that he will not allow complacency to hinder their European progress, even with some changes to the lineup tonight.

Maresca's tactics are a great fit for our offensive players, particularly PFA Young Player of the Year Cole Palmer. It's been a while since a Chelsea player has achieved three assists in a single league game, not since the days of Cesc Fabregas.

Top goal scorer Noni Madueke has continued to impress after scoring in the first game of this match. He is currently in unstoppable form, making life difficult for defenders with his unpredictable movements on the field.

Pedro Neto gave a smart pass to Joao Felix, who scored a goal after returning from injury. However, neither of them will be playing tonight. Joao Felix was signed too late to be included in the squad for this match, and Neto, along with Malo Gusto, has been given a rest.

Moises Caicedo appears to be unaffected by a harsh tackle at Molineux, and with Romeo Lavia out of the picture and Enzo Fernandez potentially playing in a different position, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could enter the action.

Marc Guiu, who did not score in the first leg, may be chosen to play as a striker again. Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen might keep his spot in the goal after keeping a clean sheet in London.

Even though Chelsea have played friendly matches at Servette's stadium twice before, this will be our first official game in Geneva.

The two teams clashed in the first match of the Conference League qualifying round last Thursday at Stamford Bridge. The home team, managed to secure a 2-0 victory, even though the Swiss team had a few chances to score.

This is the third time we are playing an away match in a European play-off setting. The first two matches were in the Champions League. The team from London qualified with a 0-0 draw against Skonto Riga (3-0 overall) in August 1999. In the same month in 2003, they achieved a 2-0 victory in the first leg against Zilina.

Tonight we hope to advance to the main UEFA tournament by winning the qualifying rounds for the third consecutive time.

Chelsea's most recent match at Servette was 70 years ago, when they suffered a 1-0 loss in a friendly game on 31 January 1954.

If the Blues win tonight, it will be their 300th European match in six different competitions.

Launched in 2020/21, the Conference League has been won by three teams - Roma, West Ham, and current champions Olympiacos. The stylish 57.5cm trophy for the Conference League was designed by Pentagram Design, which is located in Notting Hill, just three miles away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's victory on Sunday was our largest away win since a 6-0 triumph against Southampton in April 2022. It was also the first time in 17 years that Wolverhampton conceded six goals. Joao Felix became the 14th player to come back and play for Chelsea at Molineux, and the fourth to score on his second debut, following in the footsteps of Alec Cheyne in 1934, Peter Osgood in 1978, and Romelu Lukaku in 2021.

Madueke scored three goals for the club in their latest game, making it his first hat-trick ever. This happened at 13 minutes and 59 seconds, making it the fastest hat-trick in the history of our club. With Madueke's achievement, our team now holds the record for the most individual hat-trick scorers in the Premier League, surpassing all other clubs. Additionally, Palmer made history by becoming the fifth player to assist all three goals in a Premier League hat-trick, and the third player to do so while playing away from home.
