Scarlett Johansson made a surprise appearance in the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, where she sat in on her husband Colin Jost's comedy routine. He joked about her age, their child, and their intimate life together.
In the Christmas 2024 edition of SNL, which was hosted by Martin Short from "Only Murders in the Building," the "Weekend Update" segment featured the traditional "joke exchange" between Colin Jost and Michael Che.
The custom includes both guys discovering fresh ways to humiliate each other as they take turns reading jokes that their comedy partner has crafted, which they have never encountered before.
Based on what we’ve seen this year, it seems that Che might have outsmarted Jost, who had to deliver all the jokes in a "Black voice" before making a comment about Kamala Harris still backing reparations for slavery.
His following joke really took everyone by surprise. Not only did it involve Johansson, but she was actually backstage watching him deliver it, and cameras caught her shocked reaction in real time. The actor from Under the Skin had made a brief appearance in the episode's opening segment.
“I want to dedicate this upcoming joke to my girl, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost announced, while the Black Widow actress watched with a mix of excitement and apprehension.
"Wow, she really seems to care," Jost remarked, momentarily stepping out of his role.
"You all know that Scarlett just turned 40, which means I’m getting ready to leave," Jost said, as the cameras shifted to Johansson, who looked both surprised and amused at the same time.
"Whoa! Just kidding," he said, struggling to regain his composure.
But Jost and Johansson weren't off the hook just yet, as Che had a new joke prepared for them, poking fun at their son, who arrived in August 2021.
"We recently welcomed a baby into our lives, and you haven't seen any photos of him yet because he's really dark-skinned!" Jost remarked, as a digitally altered picture of him and Johansson popped up behind him, while Johansson sat backstage sipping on a glass of water in silence.

Incredibly, the couple still had more jokes up their sleeves, and the last one that Che had lined up for Jost was even more risqué than the first two. It's so outrageous that we can't really go into details about it here.
“Costco has taken the roast beef sandwich off their menu, but I’m not bothered by it. I’ve been having roast beef for dinner every night since my wife had the baby,” Jost remarked, prompting laughter from everyone on set, while Johansson appeared truly surprised.
Fans were truly amazed by how far Che went to humiliate his friend and his spouse.
One individual remarked, "This is definitely the harshest one they've ever created, as every joke hits hard right to the core."
Another commenter mentioned, "Having Scarlett on board is a strong decision! Che raises the bar for himself every year."
"It was a total knockout. I'm going to suffocate from laughing so hard, oh my gosh. I'm actually crying," shared another fan.
This isn’t the first instance where Jost has fallen for a setup to make jokes about the star of Lost in Translation.
In July, at another round of joke exchanges, Che made Jost share this line: “ChatGPT has launched a new voice assistant feature that takes cues from Scarlett Johansson’s AI role in Her,” Jost said, sounding a bit anxious. “Which I’ve never taken the time to see because, honestly, listening without that body seems pointless to me.”
