Sam Quek MBE is the fifteenth celebrity contestant confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2024
Being a retired hockey player, I am accustomed to being a team player. However, the idea of performing on the Ballroom stage in front of an audience is quite intimidating! I am thrilled to be a part of this iconic show and step into the role of a performer. It feels incredibly surreal, but I am prepared for the exciting journey ahead.
Sam Quek, who has been awarded the title of Member of the British Empire, is the last of fifteen famous participants to officially join the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing.
The popular TV show, created by BBC Studios, will be back on BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its next season this Fall. With Strictly marking twenty years of dance, this season is expected to be particularly exciting with added sparkle, elegance, and memorable acts.
Sam Quek is someone who has won Gold in the Olympics and Europe, used to play hockey for England and Team GB, and now works as a TV and Radio Presenter.
Sam Quek played in 125 international matches for England and Great Britain's women's hockey teams, and she also won a Gold Medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In recognition of her contributions to hockey, Sam Quek received an MBE in 2017.
Now working as a broadcaster, Sam Quek has made appearances on BBC Morning Live and served as a Team Captain on Question of Sport. She covers a variety of sports such as Football, American football, Rugby, and Cricket. In addition, she co-hosted the BBC's Tokyo Olympic Games Breakfast show and makes frequent appearances on various BBC radio programs.
Sam Quek, a former hockey player, is excited to be part of a famous show where she will be dancing in front of a live audience. She is a bit nervous about it, as she is used to playing as part of a team, but she is ready to step into the shoes of a performer and embrace the surreal experience. She is looking forward to the adventure ahead.
The announcement was made on The One Show, which can be watched on iPlayer and BBC One.
