Over the weekend, many people visited supermarkets and shopping centers throughout the county to purchase enough supplies to satisfy their hungry family members and provide wine for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Darwin Centre located in Shrewsbury and the Telford Centre are now available for visits from the shoppers. These are the two largest shopping centres in Shropshire where numerous discounts and offers are being provided. It is anticipated that multiple buyers will flock to these shopping centres in search of amazing deals following the Christmas celebrations. The Telford Centre has scheduled their operating hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The manager of the Darwin Centre in Shrewsbury, Kevin Lockwood, expressed excitement about the welcoming of customers on the same day at 10am, and he assured that the center would be available until 5 pm.

According to him, the period leading up to Christmas has been good news as retailers have observed an increase in consumer spendings, while the number of visitors has also improved compared to the previous year.

He said that even though businesses have begun their sales earlier before Boxing Day to get the sales before Christmas, most of them hold on their best deals for those two events and the week right after Christmas.

He mentioned that the center was anticipating a week filled with activity and a promising outlook for the year 2024.

Shrewsbury had a favorable lead-up to Christmas as sales surged 15% in November following a sluggish October where there was a 5% year-on-year boost.

Last week's foot traffic in Shrewsbury saw a rise of 18% compared to the week prior, and a 13% increase from the same period last year according to December's data. This places Shrewsbury ahead of similar market towns in terms of weekly footfall for the year.

According to Seb Slater, who is responsible for Shrewsbury BID, a group that supports roughly 500 companies, the town centre has received many new businesses this year. As we approach the busiest shopping season of the year, it's pleasing to note that there are very few vacant units.
