BBC Asked Sabrina Carpenter to Keep It PG at Radio 1's Big Weekend: "I Wish I Had It in Me" | Exclaim!
During this time of the year, with Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" being everywhere, it’s enjoyable to remember the incident from last year when the singer-songwriter got censored by BBC for cracking a joke about the acronym BBC while performing "Nonsense" in the Radio 1 Live Lounge. In the usually improvised and suggestive outro, Carpenter sang, "I'm not British, I'm American," and added, "So BBC means something else."
The musician had an opportunity to redeem herself with the broadcaster during the recent Radio 1's Big Weekend festival in Luton, UK. She referenced her past censorship while performing "Nonsense" and started the outro with the statement, "The BBC advised me to keep it PG."
She said, "I really want to be part of BBC / There's a hidden message if you analyze it closely." Should we acknowledge her effort?
Carpenter joined Coldplay for a performance of their song "Magic" later in the night. While the band was playing their song "Fix You," Chris Martin showed his playful side by chanting "That's that me espresso", proving that he could be a fun-loving guy as well.
