Aryna Sabalenka clinched her first ever US Open championship and third major overall by defeating hometown favorite Jessica Pegula, getting revenge for her loss in last year's final.

Sabalenka experienced a painful loss in New York last year when Coco Gauff came from behind to win the US Open final. However, this year, Sabalenka was able to quiet the home fans and defeat Pegula 7-5 7-5.

The tense moments came when Pegula, a first-time finalist in a grand slam, came back from being 3-0 down to take a 5-3 lead in the second set. Pegula was serving to force a third set, but Sabalenka was able to regain control and quiet the crowd once again.

The second-ranked player in the world from Belarus has now won the US Open title, adding to her consecutive victories at the Australian Open earlier this year.

This is a significant weekend for American players at the US Open, as both the women's and men's singles finals will feature homegrown talent for the first time in nearly two decades. Tomorrow, Taylor Fritz will go up against the current World No 1, Jannik Sinner, with the chance to win his first grand slam title on the line.

Sabalenka Triumphs Over Pegula In US Open Final For Redemption

Aryna Sabalenka achieved redemption at the US Open by winning the women's title in New York.

The Belarusian experienced a tough loss when she was defeated by Coco Gauff in the final last year.

She came close to losing her lead with some shaky moments, but ultimately emerged victorious over Jessica Pegula with a score of 7-5 7-5.

She won her second major tournament of the year, after winning in Australia, and third overall. She showed that she is the top player on hard courts, with few challengers who can match her strength in these specific playing conditions.

"US Open Men's Final: Sinner Vs Fritz Start Time & TV Guide"

Come back tomorrow evening to watch Taylor Fritz try to become the first American male to win the US Open in 21 years, as he faces off against the current World No 1, Jannik Sinner.

Fritz beat his fellow countryman Frances Tiafoe in a five-set match to advance to the US Open final, making him the first man to do so since Andy Roddick in 2006. He is now just one win away from matching Roddick's win in 2003.

However, the sinner has emerged as a true challenge, as the Italian triumphed in his first major tournament victory at the Australian Open earlier this year. He has now achieved a 13-match winning streak on hard courts in the major tournaments.
