Aryna Sabalenka: Death of tennis star's boyfriend an 'apparent suicide', say police

Authorities are currently probing the passing of the significant other of tennis ace Aryna Sabalenka and have classified it as a "presumed suicide" case. Moreover, they have not discovered any proof of any wrongdoing or malicious intentions.

On Monday, Konstantin Koltsov, who used to play hockey professionally in Belarus, was discovered deceased at a hotel located in Miami, Florida. He was 42 years old.

Sabalenka is presently situated as the second-best player in the world by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). She has arrived in Miami and will take part in her initial competition on Friday in the Miami Open. However, it is uncertain if she will persist in the competition.

The Miami-Dade Police Department released a statement explaining that on March 18th at around 12:39am, the St Regis Bal Harbour Resort contacted the Bal Harbour Police and Fire Rescue for assistance. The investigators looked into the matter.

The Miami-Dade Police Department's Homicide Bureau was called to take charge of the investigation into the suspected suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov. There are no indications of any criminal activity.

Salavat Yulaev, the Russian ice hockey team that Mr Koltsov was a part of, and eventually served as an assistant coach, declared the unfortunate news of his passing.

The team characterized him as a "resilient and joyful individual" who was "admired and valued by teammates, coworkers, and supporters".

In the Winter Olympics of 2002 and 2010, Mr Koltsov represented the Belarus national ice hockey team. He also had the opportunity to play for the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins for a few years, from 2002 to 2006.

Well-known for his quickness on the skating rink, Mr Koltsov was part of the Salavat Yulaev team that emerged victorious in the Russian Super League back in 2008.

According to People magazine, he was first associated with Sabalenka in June 2021, and since then, they have posted several images together on various social media platforms.

Last year, Sabalenka, who is now 25, published a birthday message to Mr. Koltsov on Instagram. In the message, she stated that he is someone she cares about deeply, her closest friend, and someone who provides her with unwavering support.

In January, after defeating Zheng Qinwen and winning her second consecutive Australian Open title, Sabalenka received support from Mr Koltso.

The previous week, the athlete from Belarus was eliminated in the round of 16 at Indian Wells after being defeated by Emma Navarro.
