Frans Steyn, a famous Springbok player, posted on social media to reply to Israel Dagg's recent remarks about South Africa and Super Rugby.

The ex-All Black player wondered why New Zealand and Australia severed relations with South Africa for that event.

Dagg made his remarks before the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific Final, which will take place this weekend at Eden Park between the Blues and Chiefs.

"I got caught up in reminiscing. I understand that we should be concentrating on the present and looking forward to this weekend. But darn, I really wish South Africa was still involved in Super Rugby," he expressed during a chat on SENZ radio station.

A video on social media showing a crowded Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria from the past Super Rugby era inspired Dagg's remarks.

This got me reflecting on how we allowed them to slip away. Our top competitors with some of the best players to ever play the game always on our screens or even right in front of us. My first visit to South Africa will always be memorable.

When @rugby365com shared Dagg’s remarks on social media, Steyn, who currently holds the role of Director of Rugby at the Cheetahs, replied in the comments section.

"There are other South African teams that are eager for the chance!" Steyn exclaimed.

Many supporters and experts think that the Cheetahs have been given a rough deal when it comes to taking part in tournaments that span across different continents.

They were removed from Super Rugby in 2017 and later became part of the Pro14 in the Northern Hemisphere.

When the Pro14 changed its name to the United Rugby Championship for the upcoming 2021/2022 season, the Cheetahs were left out.

The Lions, Bulls, Sharks, and Stormers are the teams from South Africa that play in the United Rugby Championship.

Steyn played for the Springboks in 78 matches between 2006 and 2023. He was versatile, playing in different positions such as fullback, centre, and fly-half. Steyn was part of the winning team in two Rugby World Cups, in 2007 and 2019.
