Aston Villa closing on deal to sign Ross Barkley from Luton

Ross Barkley

Aston Villa is getting closer to finalizing the agreement to bring Ross Barkley back to the team permanently. The midfielder had previously been on loan from Chelsea for four years. The Villa is looking to enhance their team for the upcoming season, which is their first time playing in the Champions League or European Cup since 1982-83.

A 30-year-old football player, who played for England 33 times, performed really well for Luton during his time with the team after joining for free last summer. Before that, he played for Nice in Ligue 1. Luton, who will not be in the same league next season, never shared how long the player's contract was for, but it is thought to extend until next season. The player made a statement last month saying he wanted to play in the Premier League and in Europe again. He also shared that he believed he would still be playing at his best for the next three years.

It would be savvy business to acquire Barkley for a small amount. This is comparable to when Villa recruited Tielemans after his contract ended with Leicester. There have been rumors that Barkley may also join Manchester United. Villa is looking for two midfielders, a full-back, and a forward. They are one of the teams considering signing Chelsea's Conor Gallagher.

Villa should keep in mind both the profitability and sustainability guidelines, even with the significant earnings from making it to the Champions League. According to their most recent financial report for the 2022-23 period, Villa suffered a loss of £119.6 million. To mitigate this issue, they have to prioritize selling Philippe Coutinho who recently played on loan with Al-Duhail in Qatar. Additionally, they may have to contemplate substantial bid offers for Jacob Ramsey, their in-house midfielder.

On Monday, Villa announced that they have signed a kit agreement with Adidas that will span over several years. The football club had previously complained to their previous supplier, Castore, regarding their shirt quality after some players expressed concerns. According to Chris Heck, Villa's president of business, teaming up with Adidas is a step towards attaining global recognition and solidifying our position among the best football clubs worldwide.
