The wife of famous Celtic player Tommy Burns passed away while on a plane from Tenerife to Glasgow.

Rosemary Burns, aged 69, died after becoming sick on a Jet2 plane on July 3rd.

The airplane had to make a sudden landing in Cork, Ireland, due to a problem that was declared on board early on Wednesday.

Mrs. Burns fell ill during her vacation in the Canary Islands and decided to catch an earlier flight back home, according to someone close to her family who spoke to the Daily Record, a newspaper from Scotland.

They wrote: "Rosemary got sick during her vacation in Tenerife. She chose to cut her trip short and return home to Scotland."

She boarded the plane and suddenly fell ill. The flight was originally scheduled to arrive in Glasgow, but instead was redirected to Cork.

Rosemary and Tommy Burns first crossed paths at a nightclub in Glasgow when they were just 17 years old. Fast forward to 1980, they tied the knot and went on to have four kids.

Rosemary Burns, who was 69 years old, is remembered by her children Emma, Jenna, Michael, and Jonathan, as well as her grandchildren.

Tommy Burns died in 2008 at 51 years old after fighting skin cancer.

A post from Celtic expressed deep sadness at the news of Mrs. Burns' death, stating that everyone at the club was heartbroken.

According to a person on the plane, two passengers who had medical experience stood up to assist Mrs. Burns while the pilots were getting ready to land.

They reported that the flight had been airborne for approximately 2 hours when the lights suddenly turned on, and the crew requested assistance from any passengers with medical expertise.

The employees had already provided the woman with an oxygen mask to aid in her breathing. Two travelers then stepped up and supported her throughout the flight until it was redirected to Cork.

The aircraft rapidly descended and an ambulance was on scene within five minutes of landing, as reported by a newspaper in Scotland.

Football supporters paid their respects to Mrs Burns and offered their sympathies to her family.

A representative from Jet2 confirmed that flight LS176 from Tenerife to Glasgow had to change its route and land in Cork this morning because a passenger needed medical help. The plane then continued on to Glasgow Airport.
