Rohan Dennis, a former world time trial champion, has admitted to a charge in connection with his wife's death.
Australian Olympian Melissa Hoskins tragically passed away at the age of 32 when she was struck by a vehicle near the couple's home in Adelaide on December 30, 2023.
Dennis, 34, was confronted with allegations related to causing death through reckless driving, as well as an additional charge of driving carelessly.
The charges were dropped following a plea agreement, and Dennis admitted guilt to the charge of an aggravated act that could potentially cause harm at the Adelaide Magistrates’ Court.
He was released on bail to show up at the Adelaide District Court on January 24 for his arraignment, with sentencing scheduled for a later time.
Hoskins competed for Australia in the team pursuit events at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics. Additionally, he was a member of the team that claimed the world championship title in 2015.
The duo tied the knot in 2018 and are parents to two kids.
Dennis concluded his career at the end of the 2023 season, leaving behind an impressive legacy that includes two world time trial championships and an Olympic bronze medal in the same event from the Tokyo Games.
He secured a silver medal in the team pursuit event in London and donned the yellow jersey at the Tour de France after triumphing in the first time trial in 2015.
