Dennis charged with causing wife's death - reports
Melissa Hoskins took part in two Olympic competitions.
Police have reportedly charged Rohan Dennis, a renowned cyclist who has won world championships, with causing the fatal incident where his wife was hit by a car on Saturday.
The police of South Australia reported that a woman who was 32 years old underwent grave injuries and passed away in a hospital situated in Adelaide during the night time.
An announcement indicated that a gentleman, aged 33, was detained and accused of producing a fatality by driving recklessly, not operating a vehicle with appropriate precaution, and putting lives in danger.
The lady recognized the driver and he has been granted conditional freedom until March by paying a sum of money as security.
The Australian media has extensively covered the news that the individuals referred to as the man and woman are actually Dennis and his spouse Melissa Hoskins.
Hoskins achieved the title of world champion in team pursuit back in 2015, and participated in the Olympic games held in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.
In the year 2018, she tied the knot with Dennis and they now have two offspring.
Dennis made known in February about his plans to conclude his career at the close of the 2023 season. During his professional cycling career, Dennis achieved victory in stages at prestigious events such as Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana.
Being a champion in both road and track cycling championships, he secured bronze medal for road time trial in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, after previously winning team pursuit silver in London 2012.
The global organization for women cyclists, CPA Women, expressed their deep concern upon hearing about the tragic passing of Hoskins. They conveyed their condolences to all who were close to her, especially her children and those who had the privilege of riding alongside her before her untimely death.
