Glastonbury 2025: Rod Stewart to play festival's legends slot

Rod Stewart may perform popular songs such as "Maggie May," "Hot Legs," "I Don't Wanna Talk About It," and "Sailing."

Music icon Rod Stewart is set to take the stage at Glastonbury's legends slot in 2025, marking his return to the festival 23 years after his previous performance.

As one of the top-selling musicians in history, he will take on the prestigious Sunday afternoon time slot, just like Dolly Parton, Barry Gibb, Shania Twain, and Kylie Minogue did before him.

The announcement follows closely behind the celebrity's declaration that he plans to cease performing on "major world tours" by the conclusion of 2025.

The 79-year-old expressed that he feels "proud, prepared, and fully capable of entertaining and exciting my friends at Glastonbury" next June.

The Sunday afternoon time is consistently one of the most popular parts of the festival, and Sir Rod will make history as the first artist to headline the event while also being recognized with a legends title.

When Rod Stewart last performed at Glastonbury, the ticket price was £97. This year, the tickets are priced at £373.50.

Stewart was the main act at the festival back in 2002, performing alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics.

That year, the organizers implemented a five-mile "superfence" to prevent uninvited guests from entering, and it worked effectively.

"The Scottish singer praised the audience on Sunday night, noting how they've received great attention nationwide for being so well-mannered and composed."

"I'm not sure if this is positive or negative, but one thing's for certain: Glastonbury will continue for the next three decades."

Initially, the audience was cautious about the musician, who seemed to be overly serious, according to a review of the performance by Ian Youngs from the BBC.

However, those who were uncertain were eventually swayed by the one-two punch of "Maggie May" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" about thirty minutes into his performance. The audience recognized that he truly had the kind of charm that could earn him a place in the Glastonbury Hall of Fame.

Engaging with the crowd, Stewart showcased his charisma and struck poses throughout the performance of his popular songs, making several costume changes along the way. He concluded the show wearing a white ruffled shirt, which was unbuttoned nearly all the way down to his chest.

He wrapped up the evening with "Sailing," leading the crowd in a spirited singalong while fireworks lit up the sky above the Pyramid Stage.

Stewart is the first performer announced for Glastonbury 2025.

The festival is set to occur at Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 25 to June 29. There are whispers about possible headlining acts such as Sam Fender, Olivia Rodrigo, Stevie Wonder, Eminem, and Charli XCX.

At this year’s event, Dua Lipa and SZA headlined for the first time, while Coldplay set a new record with their sixth appearance as the main act.

Tickets, priced at £373.50 with an additional £5 booking fee, have already sold out. The last occasion when Stewart performed, tickets were available for £97, marking the most recent instance where the festival was under £100.

A small batch of resale tickets for next year's event will be available for purchase starting in the New Year.
