A previous athlete from Great Britain has passed away at the age of 28, according to his running club.

Robbie Fitzgibbon, a runner specializing in middle-distance races, has proudly represented his nation at various international competitions.

His club, Brighton Phoenix, referred to him as "one of our most valued athletes."

A statement described him as "a friend to countless people and an inspiration to everyone lucky enough to have met him."

It emphasized, "Robbie truly represented what it means to be a dedicated runner, capturing all the qualities we hold dear at Phoenix."

Robbie Fitzgibbon started with Brighton Phoenix as a junior athlete and, thanks to his commitment, tireless effort, and determination, he progressed to become a senior international athlete for Great Britain, according to the club.

In 2019, he took part in the senior indoor European Championships, making it to the final. He also went on to participate in various Diamond League events.

His coach and mentor, Joel Kidger, remarked, "Robbie had a natural talent, but what stood out even more was his dedication and strong work ethic."

He was tough, resolute, and most of the time, he achieved his goals.

Charlie Grice, his training partner, honored him by saying, "You were a genuine warrior who consistently put forth your maximum effort."

In the last few years, Fitzgibbon has shifted his focus away from track running, transitioning from middle-distance events to long-distance competitions.

He was getting ready to participate in the 2025 Brighton Marathon to support the charity Mind.

The club has announced that his father, Robin, will take his place and compete instead.
