Messages of love and remembrance have flooded in for American rapper Rich Homie Quan, following the announcement of his passing by officials on Thursday.

The young artist tragically died in Atlanta, Georgia, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner.

The reason for his death is unclear, but local medical experts have announced that an autopsy will be conducted on Friday.

Rich Homie Quan, known by his legal name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was a popular rapper from Atlanta.

He rose to fame in the rap industry in the mid-2010s, achieving widespread popularity with the 2013 track Type of Way. This was later followed by the successful song Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) in 2015.

He was put forward for several BET and BET Hip Hop Awards, including the titles of best new artist and the people's champ award.

He worked with many popular artists in the music industry, such as 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James.

Rich Homie Quan was born in October 1989 as the eldest of three siblings. He grew up in a single-parent household and had dreams of becoming a baseball player. However, he later decided to pursue a career in music instead. This information was provided by Atlanta gig venue, Masquerade.

He openly discussed his past in multiple interviews, and served a 15-month sentence in prison in 2011 for taking part in a string of burglaries.

Singer Jacquees was one of the first to show his respect. He said, "Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan" on social media. In another post, he expressed his love for the rapper and referred to him as a "legend".

2 Chainz shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram in memory of his friend. He mentioned how they had recently talked about working on a music video together, and he sent his thoughts and prayers to the family of his friend. He also extended his condolences to anyone else going through a difficult time.

Hip hop artist Quavo shared a message on his Instagram account along with a picture of himself, Rich Homie Quan, and a few other musicians. He stated, "I never expected this to happen to us. Hopefully, God will guide us through this tough time."

He described Rich Homie Quan as one of the most kind-hearted individuals he has ever worked with and praised him as a talented artist.
