The 62-year-old ex-member of the band Communards, who currently serves as a Church of England priest, has been announced as a new contestant on the ITV show hosted by Ant and Dec, which kicked off last Sunday.

He will join the camp in Wednesday's episode, along with Maura Higgins, who is 33 and previously appeared on Love Island.

While some celebrities focus on getting fit before heading into the jungle, Rev Coles has just come back from a cruise where he confessed to eating as much as "5,000 calories daily."

"I feel like I've gained weight since I measured myself the day before yesterday, and I expect that will still be the case for the next round of measurements," he shared with MailOnline.

Rev Richard and Maura Higgins are set to join the previously announced contestants of I'm A Celebrity (pictured).

"Actually, I haven't done that at all. I attempted it and felt I needed to, as I figured my body would react to such a drastic drop from 5000 calories to just 500 calories a day. But overall, I think it’s fine, and I will shed a little weight."

The ex-Strictly Come Dancing participant might struggle with a diet of only beans and rice. They shared with the magazine, “I usually shine in quiz competitions, but when it comes to a buffet, it’s a different story… Back when I was a vicar, they'd often keep me away from the buffet because I would push past elderly women just to reach the pork pies.”

He and Higgins will be accompanied by notable figures such as WAG Coleen Rooney, 39, ex-X-Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, 36, influencer GK Barry, 25, journalist Jane Moore, 62, and boxing promoter Barry McGuigan, 32, all of whom have already spent six days in the jungle.

Another well-known personality ready to join in is TV host Ruth Langsford, who is 64 years old.

She won't be participating in any bushtucker trials because she's flying over to support her Loose Women co-star, Moore.
