Commemorating Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day - New Forest District Council
Our team and council members commemorated Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day throughout the district.
On Monday, November 11, our council members and staff commemorated Armistice Day by participating in the national two-minute silence and a wreath-laying ceremony at Appletree Court in Lyndhurst.
During the ceremony, a wreath was placed by Councillor David Hawkins, the Council Chairman, and Councillor Jill Cleary, the Council Leader. They were accompanied by Kate Ryan, the Chief Executive, along with staff members who are veterans of the Armed Forces.
Cllr David Hawkins, the Chair of the Council, expressed, "It is essential that we keep honoring those who defended our nation during the two world wars and those who have served since then. We deeply appreciate our connection with the local military community, whose commitment continues to motivate us."
On Sunday, November 10, Cllr David Hawkins, the Council Chairman, participated in New Milton's Remembrance Service, where he laid a wreath alongside Cllr Alvin Reid, the Council's Armed Forces Champion. Later in the day, the Chairman was also present at the memorial events in Keyhaven at 2 PM and in Milford-On-Sea at 3 PM.
Cllr John Sleep, the Vice Chairman of the Council, was present at the Remembrance Parade organized by the Totton and Eling Town Council, held at the Totton War Memorial.
