Remembrance Day message from the SoR president | SoR
In honor of this year's Remembrance Day on November 11, Tom Welton, the president of the Society of Radiographers, expresses his thoughts to the members of the organization:
Every year on November 11, we take a moment to remember those who have died in battles for our nation and our freedoms. We reflect on the horrors of both World Wars, as well as the sacrifices made in conflicts like the Falklands and Afghanistan. It is important for us to honor these individuals and recognize the heavy price paid for liberty. Today serves as a reminder of our support for all those who lost their lives and the families they left behind. By looking back at history, we can better appreciate the security we have in the UK today and understand the importance of our role in fostering peace in a civilized world.
In the past few years, the significance of remembering has grown considerably. With rising global tensions, the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Russia, the Middle East, and Sudan are resulting in more violence, highlighting our urgent need to pursue peace. As a trade union and as a prominent organization in healthcare, our commitment will always be to protect and uphold life.
I am also thinking of the radiography professionals, as well as others in the healthcare sector, both in the UK and globally, who are helping victims of conflicts. These individuals often face immense stress and ethical challenges in their work. We support and stand united with these dedicated professionals who play such vital roles.
Tom Welton, President of the Society of Radiographers
