Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe: Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe on target as hosts cruise to La Liga victory - Eurosport
Real Madrid closed the gap to just one point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona after Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe scored goals to secure a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Jude Bellingham put the 36-time La Liga champions ahead less than half an hour into the match after Antonio Rudiger was fouled in the penalty area by Getafe’s Allan Nyom, right in front of the referee.
There was some discussion about who should take the penalty, especially with Kylian Mbappe in the mix. However, it was Bellingham who confidently approached the spot, taking a hop, skip, and jump before smoothly placing the ball down the center, fooling the goalkeeper in the process.
Mbappe didn’t have to wait long to find the back of the net. Just eight minutes later, Bellingham delivered a perfectly timed pass to him. Mbappe calmly placed his shot from outside the box, which hit the post and went in, marking his eighth goal of the La Liga season.
Carlo Ancelotti's team was refused a second penalty after Mbappe's attempt struck a Getafe player's hand. VAR stepped in to reverse the initial call. Meanwhile, the French striker missed several chances to add to his score.
Coming up, Real Madrid will take on Athletic Club on Wednesday, followed by a match against Girona on Saturday in La Liga. At the same time, Getafe will be competing in the Copa del Rey midweek against Orihuela, a team from the fourth division, before facing off against Espanyol, another team in the relegation zone.
Mbappé Shows Promise But Lacks Finishing Touch
Although his goal may have silenced critics, Mbappe struggled to add to his score as chances arose, and he could have easily netted more against Getafe.
Although we shouldn't read too much into Bellingham being picked to take penalties, especially since Carlo Ancelotti has mentioned that he'll be sharing the role this season, Mbappé still had numerous opportunities.
His aim was reminiscent of Mbappe’s style, and it’s what Real Madrid likely anticipated seeing more of after he joined the team. However, there were moments when Mbappe would have thought the ball should have ended up in the goal.
Jude Bellingham: Match Player For Real Madrid
He was substituted at halftime as a safety measure, but before that, he managed to score a goal and provide an assist, further enhancing his impressive performance this season.
He remained calm and composed as he maneuvered around Getafe's goalkeeper, David Soria, and then delivered a perfectly placed pass to Mbappe—something that many fans will want to witness again. If only he had been on the field a bit longer.

29' PENALTY AWARDED TO MADRID This was inevitable. Real Madrid had a corner, and once more, Allan Nyom is on Antonio Rudiger's case, bringing him down in the penalty area. The referee spotted it right away. A penalty kick has been awarded. Now the question is, who will step up to take it?
30' GOAL! REAL MADRID 1-0 GETAFE (BELLINGHAM 30') Jude Bellingham makes a quick move, then coolly places the ball down the center, leaving the goalkeeper diving in the opposite direction.
38' GOAL! REAL MADRID 2-0 GETAFE (MBAPPE 38') What a fantastic play! Jude Bellingham delivers a perfectly weighted pass for Mbappe, who takes a single touch to evade the defender before firing from just outside the penalty area. The shot ricochets off the post and into the net.
50' PENALTY FOR MADRID The ruling took everyone by surprise, as there were no protests, but it appears that a handball occurred in the penalty area.
51' NO PENALTY Getafe has avoided a penalty after the VAR assessment.
75' MBAPPE IS IN SHOCK AFTER MISSING THAT CHANCE Mbappe can hardly believe it as he charges towards the goal, only to see his shot narrowly miss the post. It was an incredibly close call.
83' GETAFE HITS THE CROSSBAR They probably thought they had scored when John Patrick launched a shot that got past Courtois, but unfortunately for them, it struck the crossbar instead.
In the 96th minute, Mbappe definitely should have scored his second goal. He made a great run into open space and passed to Arda Guler, who set him up perfectly. However, Mbappe couldn't finish from just a few yards out.
