Real Madrid Legend Blasts ‘Rock And Roll’ Team For Having ‘Too Much Muscle And Toughness’
Real Madrid icon Predrag Mijatovic has taken aim at Carlo Ancelotti's current squad for their so-called "rock and roll" style of play, suggesting that the team relies too heavily on physical strength and toughness.
Real Madrid icon Predrag Mijatovic expressed his disapproval of Carlo Ancelotti's current team, suggesting that their self-proclaimed "rock and roll" style of play relies too heavily on physical strength and aggression when handling the ball.
Real Madrid's impressive streak of 36 consecutive games without a loss came to an end on Wednesday night as they fell 1-0 to Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the Champions League.
Responding to the loss on the Spanish radio network Cadena SER, the famously vocal player who scored the decisive goal in the 1998 final against Juventus remarked that, although "the team isn't too weak defensively and Lille didn't perform poorly either," he believes Madrid "needs to make significant improvements in several areas."
The Montenegrin was asked whether he believes in "this energetic style of football from Real Madrid, especially with a midfield featuring Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham, during the match against Lille?"
“To be honest, I have my doubts about this midfield,” he said. “I believe the issue in the match against Lille stemmed from the midfield. It lacks creativity and relies too much on physicality.”
"I've really missed Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos is also absent," Mijatovic continued.
In my opinion, Tchouameni, Camavinga, and Valverde bring a lot of physicality and strength when handling the ball. I feel that this combination isn't the right fit for the way Real Madrid plays in this match.
Although he has previously expressed concerns about the Brazilian's demeanor, Mijatovic has now stepped up to support Vinicius Jr.
"You mentioned Vinicius' subpar showing, but his style of play heavily relies on the quality of passes he receives. In the match against Lille, we lacked the creative midfielders who could supply him with the right opportunities to shine," Mijatovic explained.
Additionally, Endrick's difficulties stepping in for Kylian Mbappé were "not surprising."
"I believe Endrick isn't quite prepared to start just yet. This year, I think it would be best for him to come in as a substitute and seize the opportunity when the opposing team's performance dips, allowing him to score."
Following the end of its impressive 36-game winning streak, Madrid must bounce back and aim to defeat Villarreal at the Bernabeu this Saturday in their La Liga match.
