Reports suggest that Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her partner earn approximately £74,000 annually from two rental properties.
Over the weekend, both the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail published articles claiming that Reeve and her partner, Nicholas Joicey, are renting out their four-bedroom house in south London for approximately £3,200 a month since relocating to 11 Downing Street.
Reports suggest that Joicey is thought to have rented out a two-bedroom apartment in central London, where the going rate is close to £3,000 per month.
In the Budget released last week, Reeves revealed a sudden increase in stamp duty for additional properties, like buy-to-let homes, raising it from 3% to 5%.
This decision has faced significant backlash from the rental market, as it discourages new landlords from entering the field. Consequently, it also benefits current landlords, since limited housing availability results in increased rental prices.
