Celebrity Race Across the World show 'exhausting' say winners

Race Across the World

This article announces the champions of Celebrity Race Across the World.

The competitors journeyed 12,500 kilometers from the Amazon rainforest to the Andes mountains.

The champions of the most recent season of Celebrity Race Across the World have shared that the journey was "thrilling, motivating, and tiring."

Scott Mills, the host of BBC Radio 2, and his spouse Sam were the first to arrive at the final checkpoint at Osorno Volcano in Frutillar, Chile.

According to preliminary viewing statistics, the episode attracted an average audience of 3.7 million viewers.

Actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen Moriarty secured the second position, arriving at the checkpoint after a delay of 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The last two teams—TV host Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy, as well as model Kelly Brook and her spouse Jeremy Parisi—arrived at Osorno Volcano the next day, securing third and fourth places, respectively.

Upon arriving at the checkpoint, Brook expressed that completing it was "everything" to him.

"Jeremy aimed for victory, while I was simply focused on completing the event. The truth is, we ended up in last place, so I believe we should have embraced a fun attitude from the start. It wouldn’t have changed our outcome anyway!"

Scott and Sam expressed that it seemed "strange" to them to be the first ones to arrive at the checkpoint.

During an appearance on Radio 2 on Thursday morning, Mills expressed that he felt "a little melancholy that it's all over now."

He mentioned that it truly seemed like any team had a chance to win, since there were only 39 minutes separating all the teams at the beginning of the final stage.

Even though they began the final stretch in third position, the couple flipped a coin to decide which path to follow from Tilcara to Frutillar.

They made the choice to journey across Argentina, heading to San Salvador and then continuing on to Mendoza.

Once they flipped through the guest book and realized they were the winners, the duo couldn't contain their excitement. They leaped up and down, exclaiming, "Oh my God, we did it!" before hugging tightly, filled with joy and emotion.

During an interview discussing his travels covering 12,500 kilometers through South America, Mills remarked, "When we reached the summit of the volcano, we shared a embrace and let out a few tears."

People kept telling us that we had emerged victorious, but I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. It didn't register with me at all.

The DJ mentioned that he thought they were the last ones to arrive at the checkpoint.

I distinctly recall telling him, "Running won't help, Sam, we've already lost."

The 51-year-old, who has been hosting the afternoon program on Radio 2 since September 2022, mentioned that this experience has transformed his approach to travel.

There have been a few weekends since we recorded the show when I've decided to put my phone away and keep it in a drawer.

We're taking a trip in October for our postponed honeymoon, and I've already informed folks like my agent, my mom, and others I chat with frequently that I won't be available by phone for the entire week.

"I tried it for five weeks, and it was amazing—when we finally got the chance to use our phones again, we didn't even want them."

In recent weeks, he has gotten a flood of messages from fans who say that it has motivated them to embark on their own road trips.

"This program has made travel accessible to everyone."

The couple, who tied the knot in June, mentioned that the experience has deepened their bond.

I always had a feeling that Sam was meant for me, but going through this entire experience truly confirmed it beyond any doubt.

"This may be a rare opportunity for us to experience a complete break from the outside world."

Looking back on the entire experience, Mills commented, "I believed I had a good understanding of the world, but I realized I was more unaware than I expected. It was both thrilling and motivating, yet also tiring."

While substituting for Zoe Ball on Radio 2, Mills shared with listeners on Thursday that his favorite places are Uruguay and Chile.

I really enjoyed my time in Uruguay, and reaching our final destination in Chile felt like stepping into an Austrian ski resort. It was such a stark contrast to the starting point of our journey in the Amazon.
