London's Heart: A Special Location

A new memorial to honor Queen Elizabeth II is set to be built in St. James’s Park, near The Mall at Marlborough Gate. The memorial will stretch from this area to the lake, encompassing the iconic Blue Bridge.

The government announced that they selected the location because it is close to The Mall, a ceremonial route used for important events like the Coronation in 1953 and the upcoming Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Many people gathered along the route for her State Funeral in September 2022. The location is also near Buckingham Palace, where she lived for many years, and the Commonwealth headquarters. Additionally, it is close to statues of her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, adding a sense of significance to the area.

It is anticipated that individual memorials in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will be revealed at a later date.
