Gaffer On QPR Defeat: “I Didn’t Recognise That Today”
Ryan Lowe expressed that he couldn't identify his Preston North End team during their 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers.
North End suffered their third defeat of the week at Loftus Road due to Lyndon Dykes' goal in the 20th minute, which was a result of a defensive mistake.
Liam Millar had the most promising opportunity of the game for PNE before they fell behind. However, even though they tried hard, they couldn't make Asmir Begović do anything significant after that.
After the match, Ryan gave his thoughts on his team's performance. He stated that it was not up to par and he struggled to express it accurately. The team he saw out on the pitch was not the team he knows. Their play with and without the ball did not meet his expectations.
This is the same Preston as before. This is the reason I arrived, because they were not up to par back then, and they still aren't up to par today. I feel extremely disappointed.
I have expressed my opinions to the players and a few of them have also agreed with me, however, the journey until the end of the season will not be straightforward.
In the past three games, we could have earned four points. Now, we need to focus on facing two more strong teams and strive to secure as many points as we can.
I'm really upset because the team that played today wasn't the one I expected. I thought we would be better considering how well we've been playing this season. Unfortunately, we made a lot of mistakes: we didn't hold onto the ball, we were careless with our passes, and we didn't move around enough. I could keep talking about it, but instead, I'll review the game on the bus ride back.
I would like to express my apologies to the supporters who attended the match and spent their income. The squad that played under my management was not representative of Preston North End, and this is a source of disappointment for me.
After losing to Southampton earlier in the week, North End got a boost with the return of some key players. Alan Browne and Ryan Ledson were deemed fit to start, and Liam Millar also joined the starting lineup.
The manager believed that QPR would be highly motivated for the match at Loftus Road because their status in the Sky Bet Championship was at risk. However, he was disappointed that his team did not perform better in preventing the hosts from winning.
Ryan declared that he would never expel any of his players as they belong to him. As the manager, he takes accountability for their actions. Every day, they work together to improve their performance and ensure they execute their techniques correctly. However, despite all their effort, Ryan did not witness any progress in the specific aspects they had been working on.
It's my duty to be accountable, but it's also a team effort. If our players fail to follow instructions and make mistakes, which ultimately lead to them not playing the way I envision, then I, as the manager, will take responsibility for it.
However, it is essential that we all share the responsibility of improving. We have displayed promising performances this season that have brought us close to our objectives. Currently, it seems like we are in the final stretch of the season with only two weeks remaining.
