Prince Andrew says he ‘ceased all contact’ with alleged Chinese spy after government advice
The Duke of York stated that he has completely cut off all communication with the businessman alleged to be a Chinese spy, following guidance from the government.
According to a statement from his office, Prince Andrew encountered the person through "official means" and "never discussed anything sensitive."
The entrepreneur, regarded as a “trusted associate” of Andrew, was unsuccessful in his appeal against a ruling that prevented him from entering the UK for reasons related to national security.
A man identified solely as H6 appealed to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) after the former home secretary, Suella Braverman, announced in March 2023 that he should be barred from entering the UK.
Judges were informed that during a meeting with the home secretary in July 2023, officials stated that H6 had the ability to create connections between influential individuals in the UK and high-ranking Chinese officials, connections that could be used for political meddling.
They also mentioned that H6 had minimized his ties to the Chinese government, and when paired with his connection to Andrew, this posed a risk to national security.
The statement read: "The Duke of York took the guidance of the government and ended all communication with the person after some issues were brought to light."
The Duke encountered the person through formal means, and there was never any conversation about anything confidential.
"He cannot provide any additional details regarding issues related to national security."
