Amazon Prime Video streaming content to include ‘limited advertisements’
Starting from the beginning of next year, people who subscribe to Amazon's Prime Video streaming service will come across advertisements during movies and TV programs unless they are willing to pay an additional fee of £2.99 for an uninterrupted watching experience.
After February 5th, the company will show "limited advertisements" in its streaming content to customers in the United Kingdom and Germany. In the United States, Prime Video users will start seeing advertisements from January 29th.
Netflix and Disney have brought out lower-priced streaming options supported by advertisements aimed at attracting budget-conscious consumers who are concerned about rising household expenses. Unlike its competitors, Amazon's ad-supported package is not less expensive, and customers will have to pay more to watch without adverts.
The major streaming companies have changed how they operate their businesses due to a decline in the growth of subscribers after the pandemic. They are trying to make their loss-making services profitable by adding advertisements, increasing fees, and reducing their content spending.
Amazon has informed its Prime Video members of a decision to enhance its investment in captivating content over a long span of time. This decision is said to have been made to ensure the company keeps increasing its investment continuously.
Amazon has announced that it will not bombard its viewers with excessive advertising. They stated that their platform will have substantially fewer ads when compared to TV channels and other streaming TV providers that rely on ad revenue.
Earlier in the year, the company announced that it intended to introduce advertising in several countries, similar to its competitors. These countries include the UK, US, Germany, and Canada.
The Prime membership of Amazon can be purchased for £8.99 each month in the UK. This grants users access to its music and video streaming services, and also includes other benefits like free and swift delivery for packages. Amazon declared that the price for the service will remain the same for the next year, provided that customers do not choose to pay more for a version without ads.
In recent times, Netflix has launched a subscription package that includes ads, and they currently have approximately 15 million worldwide customers who are subscribed to it. The basic tier costs £4.99 per month, which is far more cost-effective than the regular, ad-free package priced at £10.99.
If you want to subscribe to Disney+, you can choose between two options: a plan with ads for £4.99 a month or an ad-free plan for £7.99. The service was made available in the UK back in August.
