This month, two individuals who have invested in premium bonds have both won the first prize of £1 million. One of the winners lives in the West Midlands and the other resides in West Sussex.
The initial bond number that was picked is 060PS313350 and the happy winner resides in the West Midlands. This individual owns premium bonds worth £5,050 and obtained the victorious bond in May 2000. This marks the fifth time that a jackpot has been awarded to someone from the West Midlands.
The second person to become a millionaire lives in West Sussex and owns the Bond number 466PQ093728. They have £50,000 worth of Premium Bonds and bought the lucky Bond in August 2021. This amazing win marks the 12th time a person from West Sussex has become a millionaire.
Over £471 million worth of prizes will be distributed in the November 2023 lottery, with a grand total of over 5.7 million prizes awarded.
Premium Bonds: How They Work?
Premium bonds are a highly favored method of savings in the UK and can be an enjoyable choice as long as you understand that a steady income is not promised.
National Savings and Investment (NS&I), which is a government-owned savings bank, provides an investment opportunity.
Instead of receiving standard interest on their funds through the typical process, people who possess these bonds participate in a chance drawing at the beginning of each month. Winners receive tax-exempt rewards ranging from £25 to £1 million.
This year, the amount of money awarded as prizes has gone up a lot. This is because the interest rates in the UK have gone up too. The prize fund is now at its highest level in almost 25 years.
Did I Win Premium Bonds? Check Here!
If you have premium bonds and desire to know whether you've won a reward in the most recent monthly drawing, you can utilize the NS&I web-based prize verifier available on this website.
You also have the option to get the app for free on your iOS or Android device. If you have an Amazon Alexa device, it can also keep track of the previous six prize draws for you.
To verify your Bonds, you must have your specific holder ID, which can be located on your bond documentation or by accessing your NS&I account online. The ID typically consists of either nine or ten numerals, or it may be an eight-digit code ending with a letter.
The rewards do not have an expiration date, which means you have the opportunity to retrieve prizes from the very first lottery draw held in 1957.
As of November 2021, MoneySavingExpert estimated that there are over 2 million uncollected prizes for Premium Bonds, amounting to a whopping £75 million.
Premium bond holders can choose to have their winnings deposited straight into their bank account or reinvested into additional bonds in order to lessen the chance of leaving prizes unclaimed.
According to NS&I, nearly 90% of prizes are currently distributed through this method, and additional information can be obtained from their website.
Chances Of Winning Premium Bonds?
Earlier this year, the rate of interest for the prize fund increased twice; first from 2.2 percent to 3 percent, and then again to 3.3 percent.
The percentage went up again in July and reached 3.7%. After that, it increased even more and reached 4% just before the August draw.
NS&I has once again increased the amount of money available in their prize fund for September. This rise is significant, taking the rate up to 4.65 per cent. It is the highest rate seen since March 1999.
This alteration indicates that the probability of a specific bond winning has also increased, from 24,000/1 in July to 21,000/1 - reaching their highest level since the April 2008 draw.
