REPORT: Plymouth Argyle 2-2 Coventry City
On Wednesday evening, the Sky Blues secured a deserved draw in the dying moments of the game away from home against Plymouth Argyle.
Morgan Whittaker scored the first goal for the home team, but Ellis Simms managed to score a goal for the opposing team 10 minutes later, resulting in a tie for the game.
Nevertheless, Mickel Miller's cross was unintentionally redirected by Bobby Thomas and managed to surpass Brad Collins' defenses, resulting in the Sky Blues losing the game without any points gained.
The equalizing goal for the city team was scored in the last moments of the game. It was Victor Torp who made the cross, and Liam Kitching scored by turning the ball in at the near post.
At the beginning of the game, the Plymouth captain was the first to have a good opportunity to score. Morgan Whittaker managed to get into a good position on the right side and shot towards Brad Collins, who made a good save by diving towards his near post.
On the opposing side, an impressive maneuver opened up an opportunity for Matty Godden just outside the box and his long-range attempt was skillfully blocked by Conor Hazard.
Milan van Ewijk's speedy movements and rapid pace led to the emergence of the next opportunity in the game. As the fullback of City, he compelled Hazard to make a brilliant save by aiming for the bottom corner from afar. The chance appeared out of nowhere.
There were many shots coming in from far away and Hazard was having a lot of work to do. In this instance, he had to drop down to prevent a shot from Victor Torp, which bounced off the ground and into his hands.
In the first half, the Sky Blues had an excellent opportunity to score from the inside of the box. Unfortunately, Matty Godden was not able to convert Jake Bidwell's cross into a goal.
Shortly after, it was Ellis Simms who was set free on goal, however, due to a defender approaching quickly, the forward missed the goal.
The home team had one last opportunity before the break, and it was Whittaker again. However, on this occasion, his shot missed the goal and hit the side netting.
Intermission: Plymouth Argyle and Sky Blues are tied with no score.
At the beginning of the second half, the Sky Blues took control and made their way past the Argyle defense. Godden had an opportunity to score, but his shot was stopped skillfully by Hazard.
Yet, the Pilgrims managed to break the stalemate by executing a skillful maneuver during the game. They strategically pulled the ball back across the box, which was then successfully finished off by Whittaker, resulting in a 1-0 score in their favor.
The advantage did not persist for very long as the Sky Blues managed to equalize ten minutes later. Torp made an impressive pass to Simms who attempted to score but was blocked. However, he did not give up and managed to put the rebound in the net.
However, City's tie score was short-lived when Mickel Miller sent a left cross into the box that deflected off of Bobby Thomas and slipped past Collins to score a goal.
With only ten minutes left on the clock, the defender had the opportunity to make a crucial goal at the opposite side of the field. However, despite receiving Torp's corner, he failed to direct the ball toward the goal as he headed it away from its intended target.
Nevertheless, the City team managed to score a well-deserved tying goal in the final moments of the game, thanks to a deft move by Liam Kitching near the goalpost.
