Inspired by the design of the PS1, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this December, the new collection features a PS5 Pro and a PS5 Slim Digital Edition. Each will be available with retro-style DualSense controllers (which can also be purchased separately) along with the necessary connection cable.

If you haven't spent money on Sony's newest handheld device, you'll be pleased to know that the PlayStation Portal is included in the cosplay lineup as well.

Inspired by Sony's legendary original console that played a significant role in attracting a broader adult demographic to gaming, the updated hardware features a modern, streamlined look in timeless shades of grey and black.

In a nod to the original PlayStation, the empty PlayStation logo seen on today’s consoles has been replaced with the vibrant, multi-colored version from back in the day. The packaging also has a retro feel, showcasing the classic grey box design that brings back memories of the very first PlayStation’s release.

It’s enough to transport you back to your teenage room, where the walls were decorated with posters of Lara Croft, while you sat on a carpeted floor scattered with editions of the Official UK PlayStation Magazine.

The limited edition PlayStation Portal handheld allows you to stream games straight from your PS5.

In truth, it could be quite challenging to get your hands on the new hardware. With only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro available, each marked with a unique limited edition number, purchasing the console right at launch will be extremely difficult.

Scalpers are expected to take advantage of the situation, increasing resale prices and making it more difficult for everyday customers to purchase an item.

That's also the day the regular PS5 Pro hits the market. Don't be shocked if the special edition version is priced higher than its £700 tag, particularly since it includes additional accessories.

Are Consoles Becoming Too Expensive?

Consequently, Sony is unlikely to refute the claims that its current hardware is too expensive for many buyers. Some analysts in the gaming industry think that the high-end PS5 Pro, which significantly enhances graphics for both new and older games, indicates the direction Sony is taking with its gaming division.

While competitors like Nintendo and Xbox focus on attracting a broader audience by offering affordable handheld devices and subscriptions that work across multiple platforms, experts suggest that Sony is more focused on maintaining high profit margins rather than appealing to the larger market.

Sony is focusing on serious gamers who have a lot of money to spend. They believe this smaller group is ready to invest in high-quality performance. This suggests that we might be seeing the end of reasonably priced, everyday PlayStation consoles.

In addition to gamers who are watching their spending, those who have the original PS5 will also be left out of the new collection. It likely wouldn't have been too challenging to make interchangeable panels inspired by the PS1 for the older model, but they would have been less expensive to produce.
