According to a review, ITV went to great lengths to investigate the rumors surrounding Phillip Schofield's relationship with a colleague in 2019. However, they were not able to confirm the allegations until he admitted to them this year.
The ex-host departed from ITV after confessing to fabricating the affair.
Afterwards, the network employed a lawyer to supervise an analysis of how they managed the connection.
Both Schofield and the colleague were absent from the review.
The report says that Schofield refused to participate in the review due to concerns about the negative effects on his well-being.
During an interview with the BBC in June, he stated that the dispute had made him feel like he wanted to take his own life.
According to Jane Mulcahy KC, Schofield's state of mind has worsened over time.
The report stated that the management team at ITV worked really hard to find out if there was any truth to the story that was published in The Sun newspaper in early December 2019 that claimed PS (Schofield) and PX (the runner) were in a romantic relationship.
"Although those involved in the situation denied any wrongdoing, ITV could not find the necessary proof until PS confessed in May of 2023."
According to the report, ITV should establish "exact instructions for its well-known personalities in the future to guarantee that they conduct themselves well, even if they are well-known."
The blog post also stressed the significance of subordinates at ITV feeling self-assured enough to bring up issues to higher-ups in accordance with the Speaking Up policy set by the company.
ITV stated before that they had looked into the gossip about the connection in the year 2020, but both individuals consistently repudiated it.
Schofield, who is sixty-one years old, was dismissed by his talent agency YMU after confessing to an "unwise, but not against the law" extramarital relationship.
The report was warmly received by ITV, with the addition that no indication of a "poisonous environment" was discovered by the lawyer.

Phillip Schofield used to co-host This Morning alongside Holly Willoughby before he left in May.
Schofield departed from his position on This Morning in May after rumors surfaced of a disagreement with his colleague Holly Willoughby.
After a few days, the television program became wrapped up in a troubling situation when Schofield verified that he had been involved romantically with a younger male colleague. This occurred whilst he was still wedded to his wife, Stephanie Lowe.
Schofield expressed regret for being dishonest with his coworkers, the press, as well as his loved ones about the extramarital relationship, then parted ways with ITV without delay.
During the month of October, Holly Willoughby announced her departure from the show This Morning on ITV, citing personal reasons relating to herself and her family. Willoughby had been a part of the show for 14 years.
The TV presenter had not been on the daytime show for some time. This was because a man had been charged with trying to hire someone to kidnap her.
